The “My Healthy School Project” is a planned three-year cross border project in northern Kenya and southern Ethiopia to be handed in to the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ PT) by mid-March 2025. The project aims to improve the health and wellbeing of school going children using the One Health approach in primary and secondary schools within Marsabit County in Kenya and Dire Woreda in Ethiopia. The project will target mapped out schools in the two regions through various tailored initiatives that will broadly focus on strengthening the local available structure on Health, WASH, Nutrition and Climate ChangeEnvironment.

Malteser International is looking for a consultant to conducta a feasibility study to determine the practicality and effectiveness of implementing the project.

“My Healthy School Project”

Scope of the Assignment

The consultant, with guidance from the Malteser International Program team, is expected to conduct a feasibility study to determine the practicality and effectiveness of implementing the project. The objectives of the assignment include:

  1. Analysis of the demand and impact of the project within the pre-selected schools
  2. Analyze the resources (financial, technical, and human) required for implementation
  3. Identify potential challenges and risks
  4. Evaluate the project’s potential for scalability and sustainability

Key Competence

  • The consultant should have expertise in conducting evaluations within the humanitarian context of ASAL Kenya and Ethiopia.
  • The consultant should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in public health, education, food security, nutrition, WASH, health systems management, resilience programming or another health-related field.
  • The team should possess strong research skills including the ability to collect and analyze data with demonstrated high level of professionalism and ability to work in tight timelines.
  • The consultant should also demonstrate experience, capacity and experience in conducting project preparation studies, assessments or feasibility studies, prior work with the OECD-DAC criteria and/or BMZ/BENGO within a proposed timeframe.

Timeframe and Expected Deliverables

The work detailed in the Terms of Reference (TOR) is to be done in 26 working days from latest 01.12.2024 as agreed upon deliverables with Malteser International.
