The Sensors and Analytics technical lead role will be responsible for maintaining and improving the F135 engine’s prognostic sensor capabilities to enable condition-based maintenance and inspections, and to ensure data integrity and availability for the DPHM discipline. They work with the immediate team to develop data products, analytics and detection algorithms that measure and predict the health of various F135 subsystems. In this role, the Sensor and Analytics lead will collaborate with engineering teams to develop next generation data analytics and algorithms for military applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deploying algorithms to customer facing systems to enable condition-based engine maintenance and improve fleet health.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate the F135 sensing suite to ensure optimized performance.
  • Propose, coordinate, and execute hardware improvement and sensing capability enhancement activities.
  • Controls software improvements and development for health monitoring functions and algorithms.
  • Integrating external or new datasets into existing data pipelines.
  • Analytics development with data scientists and data analysts using statistical analysis, physics-based models, and artificial intelligence efforts.
  • This role will give you exposure to a wide variety of engineering challenges. You will be involved in a critical role for Pratt & Whitney’s military engine programs.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • 10 years of engineering experience, or An Advanced Degree with 7 years’ experience.
  • U.S. Person or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Familiarity with modern data analysis and signal processing techniques.
  • Demonstrated capability in applying advanced analytics to real-world sensor data, including machine learning methods and life prediction / time-to-event estimation.
  • Experience in hardware/software risk reduction and capability validation efforts
  • Experience in coordinating multiple organizations to deliver on schedule and on budget.
  • Knowledge of and exposure to aerospace control and diagnostic systems.
  • Proficiency with Python, Java, Kubernetes, Apache Spark, and Agile
  • Knowledge of Cloud Computing tools and methods, particularly AWS and/or Azure.
  • Security Clearance is preferred; willing to obtain and maintain.

  • Control & Diagnostic Systems (CDS) is a dynamic engineering organization focused on the development and certification of military, commercial and industrial gas turbine engine control and diagnostic systems. CDS is responsible for all aspects of Pratt & Whitney engine control and diagnostic system development, including requirements analysis & definition, system & software architecture, algorithm design, and product software design, verification & validation. We integrate the control and diagnostic system design across other engine system modules and with the air vehicles and provide support throughout the complete engine product life cycle.
  • The Diagnostics, Prognostics and Health Management (DPHM) discipline within CDS is responsible for the development and deployment of cutting-edge data acquisition systems, diagnostics, prognostics, and analytics. This includes Usage Based Lifing (UBL) for P&W engines and components and deploying state of the art development tools & methodologies.

  • Remote: Employees who are working in Remote roles will work primarily offsite (from home).

  • This position is open to internal applicants only within Pratt & Whitney. To help sure up our military programs, we are looking to reallocate resources to USG direct charging roles and therefore consider this to be an internal to Pratt movement. We may look to open these opportunities upon more broadly once we complete the initial Pratt talent moves. 

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD – 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
