About the role

This role contributes to maximise the performance, volume, visibility & profitability of company brands within a defined set of customers within the Sport, Events & Entertainment arena. The effectiveness of sponsorship, brand visibility, incremental volume and profitability of sponsorship initiatives will measure this.

The Events & Sponsorship Manager will be responsible for managing a portfolio of existing customers and recruiting business as new players enter the Australian events landscape. This role will work with multiple functions across the Diageo business to bring these partnerships to life (i.e. Brand Marketing, Customer Marketing, Finance, Supply, Legal & Field) and will provide full account management to each of these new partnerships.

This role requires someone who has extensive knowledge of the Victorian music, sporting and cultural events scene and the commercial acumen to analyse which of these opportunities provide a sound return for Diageo under both a commercial and marketing lens.

They can work both autonomously, as well as be a positive contributor to both the VIC State team & National On Premise/E&S Teams.

Leadership responsibilities

The role will have accountability for the management of the following areas and customers within, this includes all connected sub businesses i.e. bar operators, festival promoters,

sponsorship agencies and stadium catering teams.

Recruiting new business opportunities and building relationships within the FMCG industry (i.e. Schweppes/Red Bull) will also form an important dimension to all aspects of this role.

This role manages several customers across various areas, given the dynamic nature of the channel. This includes (but is not limited to) the below –

Top functional capabilities:

  • Contribution to the delivery of the Business Unit Trading Profit, by maintaining standards of Account Management for the Business Unit

  • Management of major Advertising & Promotion and Sponsorship budget

  • Development of the Customer Joint Business Plans & Events Programs

  • Ensures that the Business Unit is reflected in the Diageo trading strategy, commercial plans and marketing brand plans.

  • Manage customer account relationships and activity for all major promoters and at all major event venues

  • Proactively seeks out new opportunities for Diageo’s portfolio and for partnering with Customers within the Business Unit and builds and influences relationships within that organisation.

  • Onsite management of Diageo brand activations and key event visibility items (managed both by the E&S manager and by an external agency for larger scale events)

  • Assisting with Brand Marketing partnership integration into key VIC events.

Enablers of success in role:

  • Degree in relevant tertiary discipline e.g. Business/Commerce/Sales/Marketing

  • High Commercial acumen with experience in customer facing roles

  • Experience in sponsorship roles, including the development and management of sponsorship agreements and contracts

  • High level negotiation skills

  • Exposure to working in rapidly changing environments, possessing proven change management skills

  • Leadership experience working with cross functional teams & proven ability to influence

  • Can work autonomously & flexibly as required

  • Fantastic relationship development skills and highly personal demeanour

  • Highly agile decision-making skills and the ability to adapt quickly

  • Has a ‘finger on the pulse’ in Victoria/Tasmania and fantastic existing relationships in the industry
