Job description

Estimator – Airfields

Department: Estimating

Employment Type: Permanent – Full Time

Description

The aviation sector is an exciting and ever-evolving market, brimming with exciting opportunities to explore in the years to come. The post-pandemic surge in air passenger numbers has resulted in increased revenues for airports, allowing for investments in infrastructure. Additionally, the global political landscape has created a heightened need for improvements in defence facilities.

The role of Estimator within our Airfields business is crucial to the continuing success and growth of our operations within the aviation sector.

You’re not one to engage in repetitive work, as this sector is forever changing, and each project presents its own unique characteristics. You will thrive on the challenges that this role will bring and revel in the opportunities presented.

This role is not suited for those who prefer a nice and steady approach. The sector involves critical infrastructure and requires consistent delivery within specified timeframes and budgets, and there are both planned and reactive works to be tendered, often with tight deadlines for submission.

In this position, you will work largely independently while also leveraging and utilising the expertise of the wider team. The aviation industry encompasses intricate and evolving projects, so it is crucial to be able to adapt logically to changes and quickly understand their implications.

Key Responsibilities

As an Estimator, you possess the ability to work independently, have a logical and analytical approach, and have the confidence to communicate clearly and effectively.

You will be a key part in the growth of the Airfields business, through the preparation of tender and associated quality submissions and completion of pre-qualification submissions, and you will be able to draw on your experience of the industry and current market conditions to identify opportunities, carrying out appraisals of such and preparing reports to present to the leadership team to assist with strategic business planning.

You will also maintain and monitor a register of tender enquiries for analysis, and prepare, maintain and update as required resource libraries to ensure up to date pricing data and information is used in the tender preparation process.

You will present prepared tenders for appraisal, review, and approval by the leadership team, along with the preparation of tender handover information to enable operations and commercial teams to deliver projects upon successful tender and contract awards.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • An essential requirement is experience in estimating in civil engineering works, with previous experience in airfield works being advantageous.
  • Demonstrate a good track record of successful tendering which led to achieving commercial success on projects.
  • Good written and presentational skills in a range of methods

To excel in this role you must be efficient, communicative, resilient in the face of challenges, and possess a logical approach. Collaborating with an exceptional and driven team, you will uphold high standards in an exciting and expanding market.

The role offers a diverse range of locations, work scopes and experiences, making it dynamic and unparalleled. Projects can vary from assisting strategic partners in rehabilitating or extending runways in the South of England to executing airfield surface and ground lighting rehabilitation projects on remote islands in Scotland.

As our next Airfields Estimator, you will play a pivotal role in preparing robust and comprehensive tender submissions that align with our business strategy and processes. You will be instrumental in securing future project opportunities and ensuring the successful implementation of our business strategy within the airfields business.
