Job Description

As a Professional Highways / Civil Engineer in the Sydney Highways Team, you will be responsible for contributing to the design and development of transport infrastructure projects.

You will work closely with senior engineers and project managers to deliver technical solutions that meet client requirements and design standards.

Your role will involve co-ordinating the evolution of the design, preparing technical reports, and ensuring project deliverables are met within specified timeframes.

What Will a Day in This Role Look Like:

  • Technical Design: Engage throughout all stages of the project, including optioneering, strategic planning, conceptual design, detailed design, and construction support. Undertake highways/civil design such as geometric layout, barriers, signage, and line markings, ensuring compliance with project specifications and standards. . A basic understanding of other engineering disciplines such as pavement design, drainage systems, structures and utility coordination is also beneficial.

  • Design Coordination: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders to ensure on time project execution. Coordinate design documentation and drawings with other engineering and drafting disciplines. Conduct quality reviews of design documentation and deliverables to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements.

  • Site Visits: On occasion you may be asked to conduct site visits and inspections to assess project progress, review technical issues, and ensure construction activities align with design specifications.

  • Professional Development: Continuously enhance your technical skills and knowledge through training and professional development opportunities, staying abreast of industry advancements and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or professional qualification in Civil Engineering / Construction Industry

  • The ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders

  • Proficient communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Basic understanding of transport infrastructure design principles and Australian standards (e.g. Austroads Guide to Road Design)

  • Passion for the transport industry
