Based in Melbourne and reporting to the Service Manager (Southern). The purpose of the job is to ensure that all work is carried out economically, safely, on time and within client quality standards, and to meet all Inver Port Services’ production requirements.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Demonstrate compliance and commitment to the company’s values

  • Ensure a safe working environment at all times

  • Comply with the policies and procedures in accordance with the law

  • Carry out fault finding and general repair work on Straddle Carriers, and ancillary equipment.

  • Carry out PM servicing as required in compliance with PM schedules provided

  • Ensure all repair and service work is carried out in an efficient and timely manner.

  • Ability to work independently and without direct supervision.

  • Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with company OHS regulations

  • Ensure the working area is kept in a clean and tidy condition

  • Ensure that tools and equipment supplied by the company are kept clean and in good condition

  • Complete all relevant paperwork accurately and in a timely manner

  • Represent the company in a professional manner to meet the client’s expectations

  • Other tasks as directed by line manager

What you’ll need to succeed

Education/Qualifications:

  • Australian or recognized Electrical trade qualification (Grade A)

  • Either hold or ability to hold Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC)

  • Ability to pass pre-employment medical (incl. D&A screening)

  • Hold an unrestricted Drivers License (car)

  • Forklift operator’s license

  • Elevated work platform license

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years post apprenticeship experience: specializing in fault finding, repairs and PM service on heavy plant. E.g. earth moving equipment, heavy duty forklift trucks, container handling equipment, mining equipment, marine equipment, generating sets, electrics forklifts etc.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of hydraulics, electronics and/or diesel engines

  • Basic to intermediate skills using Microsoft Windows Applications / DOS based programs

  • Customer relationship skills

  • Strong analytical and numeracy skills

  • Effective time management skills

  • Sound communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Excellent interpersonal skills (ability to deal with all stakeholders in the business

  • Knowledge of the mechanical handling, port or industrial operations industry sector

  • Knowledge of current ports mechanical and electrical crane control systems.

  • Ability to work at height on assorted mobile equipment

  • Demonstrates working knowledge of Siemans the S7 PLC, CITECT, AC & DC drives and crane management software currently used in future advances at the port.

  • Working knowledge and use of electrical schematics and symbols; AC/DC motors and drives; PLC computer systems; troubleshooting techniques and limit-setting procedures.

  • Operates mechanical boom and cable equipment to troubleshoot machine problems and evaluates correctness and completeness of repairs that have been done on the machine
