Child Protection Expert – DRC-UNHCR Roving Deployment Scheme

The DRC Standby Roster is looking for a skilled Child Protection Expert with UNHCR experience and French/Spanish language skills to be part of a new roving deployment scheme in partnership with UNHCR.

DRC has recently entered into a new deployment partnership to support UNHCR by deploying Child Protection Experts to selected operations. The Child Protection Expert will be deployed on a roving basis to UNHCR operations, primarily in emergencies, but also in complex protracted situations, for periods of two to three months on average. Between deployments, the Child Protection Expert will undertake remote work for UNHCR operations. They will be expected to undertake various tasks and duties based on operational needs in the following areas:

  • Needs Identification, Strategy and Advocacy
  • Programme planning and implementation
  • Partnership and coordination
  • Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building

The Expert will be a member of the Protection team and may have direct supervisory responsibility for child protection staff.

Profile and qualifications

For this new deployment scheme, we are looking for a qualified candidate with extensive experience in the humanitarian field and who meets the following requirements:

  • Relevant educational background and previous UNHCR work experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years specific experience with Child Protection in humanitarian emergencies.
  • 2-3 years international humanitarian field experience within the area of Child Protection in emergencies.
  • Proficiency in English as well as in French and/or Spanish (essential).
  • Knowledge and understanding of the complexities involved in refugee and IDP responses.

Screening and selection process

Applications will be screened on an ongoing basis, and we may therefore contact relevant applicants prior to the application deadline. Long-listed candidates will be screened by UNHCR and if approved, will be asked to complete an online written test and to submit contact details for two references. If the test result is satisfactory, the candidate may be invited for an interview on Skype/Teams. The final selection will be done jointly by DRC and UNHCR. We expect the selection process and deployment of the Child Protection Expert to be concluded quickly over the summer.
