• You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis in the field of Parasitology. The PhD project will focus on Malaria, the deadliest parasitic disease contracted through the bites of infected Anopheles The project will evaluate the role of parasite and host factors in shaping the responses to infection. You will have access to state-of-the-art insectarium, parasitological and immunological methodologies, and mouse models.
• You will publish scientific articles related to the research project.
• You will carry out a limited number of teaching and research support tasks for the Laboratory of Microbiology, Parasitology, and Hygiene of the Department of Biomedical Sciences.

Profile

• You hold a Master degree in Master degree in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Bio-engineering, Biochemistry, Veterinary Medicine, Medicine, Pharmaceutical Sciences or you will have obtained it by the time you start work.
• You can demonstrate excellent study results.
• Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s

• You have a strong motivation and have good oral and written communication skills.
• Holding a FELASA certificate for handling laboratory animals is an asset.
• Experience with protozoan parasites and molecular biological and immunological techniques are assets.

What we offer

• We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of two years. Following a positive evaluation, the scholarship can be renewed once for another two-year period.
