You create your future and ours.The Director, Global Medical Affairs at Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies (TBCT) is a critical global role overseeing the medical strategy and scientific engagement across regions, including EMEA, North America, APAC, China, and LATAM. Reporting to the Vice President of Patient Access, this position is integral to the Patient Access Leadership Team, which comprises Medical Affairs, Government Affairs, and Market Access. The role ensures that TBCT’s medical strategies align with global objectives and drive evidence-based approaches to improve patient outcomes and strengthen scientific partnerships.This role provides a unique opportunity to:

  • Develop and execute global medical strategies that reinforce TBCT’s position as a leader in healthcare innovation
  • Foster relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), healthcare professionals, and scientific organizations to support medical and scientific advancements
  • Drive clinical evidence generation to support product value propositions and enhance patient outcomes
  • Lead and inspire a high-performing, globally diverse medical affairs team

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThis role combines strategic vision with hands-on leadership to deliver impactful results.Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement global medical strategies to support product innovation, clinical adoption, and lifecycle management
  • Ensure alignment with regulatory, scientific, and clinical standards to support TBCT’s therapeutic areas
  • Guide the generation and dissemination of clinical evidence to support value propositions, including publications, white papers, and presentations
  • Act as the primary medical voice in strategic planning and decision-making processes

Team and Operational Leadership:

  • Lead and develop a global medical affairs team, fostering collaboration and excellence across regions
  • Oversee budget planning and resource allocation for the medical affairs function
  • Promote a culture of scientific rigor, ethical compliance, and patient-centricity

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build and maintain relationships with KOLs, scientific organizations, and healthcare professionals
  • Represent TBCT at scientific meetings, conferences, and symposia to communicate the clinical and medical value of our portfolio
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to address unmet clinical needs and expand awareness of TBCT’s innovative therapies – including regional and business area leadership
  • Provide oversight on the medical information request process

Clinical Evidence Generation and Dissemination:

  • Oversee the design, execution, and publication of clinical studies, registries, and real-world evidence initiatives
  • Lead the adaptation of global value dossiers to incorporate region-specific clinical data and requirements
  • Ensure robust medical review and support for promotional and non-promotional materials
  • Facilitate claims development and review

Education and Training:

  • Drive internal education on clinical and medical advancements to enhance cross-functional understanding
  • Develop training programs for internal teams and external stakeholders to support product adoption and clinical best practices

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure adherence to global and regional regulatory standards and ethical guidelines.
  • Monitor the evolving regulatory and clinical landscape to identify opportunities and risks for TBCT.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTSEducation:Advanced degree in Medicine (MD), Life Sciences (PhD), or a related healthcare field.Experience and Expertise:The ideal candidate will have a robust background in medical affairs, clinical development, or related fields within the pharmaceutical, medical technology, or biotech industry. Key qualifications include:

  • Minimum 12 years of leadership experience in medical affairs or related functions in the healthcare industry (incl. team leadership)
  • Comprehensive understanding of global healthcare systems, regulatory environments, and clinical evidence generation
  • Proven track-record of leading clinical studies and evidence dissemination initiatives
  • Demonstrated expertise in collaborating effectively across diverse cultures, regions, and work styles
  • Familiarity with therapeutic areas relevant to TBCT’s portfolio, such as blood, plasma, or cell therapy, is highly desirable

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities, with experience in managing diverse, cross-regional teams
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with scientific and clinical stakeholders
  • Strategic thinker with a results-driven mindset and a commitment to innovation
  • Proficiency in English; additional languages are an asset

Target Pay Range: $205,026.00 to $256,283.00 USD – Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data
