Overview

MEPPI’s Critical Power Solutions Division (CPSD) is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Design Engineer II to provide all design engineering drawings and documents as related to customer orders, support manufacturing efforts, and provide customer support on all CPSD power electronics products.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage Technical Documentation: Oversee the preparation of all technical documents (e.g., drawings, purchasing specifications, BOMs, Instruction Books) required to support order placement, manufacturing/assembly operations, and customer needs.
  • Provide Engineering Direction: Prepare design direction and technical clarification for other Engineering personnel as required.
  • Resolve Customer Technical Issues: Identify, address, and resolve customer technical questions as needed.
  • Execute System Testing: Write test scripts and test uninterruptible power supply systems and batteries in MEPPI’s power laboratory.
  • Develop Integrated Designs: Create product BOMs and design drawings that meet customer technical requirements, coordinating designs with production, purchasing, and quality teams.
  • Coordinate External Design Efforts: Manage outside design activities by other design teams, ensuring alignment with Division products and objectives.
  • Drive Concept Development: Develop design concepts and collaborate with Engineering personnel to complete required designs.
  • Support Manufacturing Operations: Assist Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Quality Assurance in resolving production-related issues.
  • Improve Design and Cost Efficiency: Recommend and implement design enhancements and cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Lead Project Execution: Act as project leader for assigned design, test, and prototype programs.
  • Manage Prototype Activities: Coordinate all prototype development efforts with internal and external stakeholders as needed.
  • Collaborate with Vendors: Work directly with vendors to resolve technical design issues.
  • Provide Field and Industry Support: Travel to customer sites and trade shows to support products and technical needs as required.
  • Localize Component Design: Develop and design U.S.-based components to replace imported components.
  • Prepare Product Documentation: Create instruction books and renewal parts lists to support product lifecycle needs.

What You Bring

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a design engineering capacity, or equivalent education and experience.

Skills

  • Intermediate knowledge of power electronics and power and energy systems, including converters and inverters.
  • Experience with performing measurements, testing, and troubleshooting of high-power equipment in laboratory or field environments.
  • Experience with reading, understanding, and creating technical drawings and materials.
  • Intermediate analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Intermediate interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills required to communicate with customers, employees, and vendors.
  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously.
