Main purpose of job:The British High Commission is seeking to recruit a professional individual with Strong Customer Service, Administrative, Human Resource, Budget & Finance skills for the position of Deputy Head of Corporate Services. The main purpose of the role is to support the operational delivery of Corporate Services and to manage employee relations for all staff in Kingston and also be the main point of contact for corporate services support to the smaller post in Nassau. You will work closely with the Senior Head of Corporate Services and the Deputy High Commissioner. The ideal candidate will be an energetic team player with sound knowledge of Jamaican Local labour law as well as some knowledge or experience of Financial/Budgetary matters.Roles and responsibilities:HR & People Management

  • Independently resolve and manage complex employee relations issues (including pay and non-pay benefits, onboarding, staff wellbeing, inclusion, dispute resolution, etc) while proactively engaging with our Honorary Legal Adviser and stakeholders.
  • Discreetly handle sensitive employee issues that could include performance and/or conduct issues, bullying, harassment, discrimination and the full process for terminations including: obtaining final approvals, employee notifications and exit procedures.
  • Develop and implement corrective action plans and conduct investigations where needed to ensure local law compliance.
  • Facilitate educational appropriate HR training all staff within post including staff in Nassau.
  • Assist with the management of the policy for compliance to Terms & Conditions of Service.
  • Maintain knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements and assist in maintenance of all local policies and conditions of employment.
  • Administrative duties, including filling, data entry into the workforce planning system, and maintaining records for compliance purposes.

Financial management:

  • Provide support to the Senior Corporate Services Manager in budgeting, forecasting and managing expenditure of the BHC Kingston’s locally devolved budget.
  • Lead, remotely, on budget, forecasting and managing BHC Nassau’s expenditure, providing budget support and advice to the High Commissioner in Nassau.
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and 3 to 5 years relatable experience, with a minimum of 3 years experience in employee relations, finance and budgeting
  • Certification in Human Resources
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information and to act appropriately in delicate employee situations
  • Proven ability to exercise good judgement with little or no supervision
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment while delivering excellent customer service
  • Proficiency in MS Office (minimum of MS word and MS Excel)
  • Excellent communication skills; both written and oral, including the ability to communicate at all levels
  • Proven ability to prioritise, effectively manage and execute multiple tasks
  • The successful candidate must have a high degree of personal resilience and empathy
  • A valid passport
  • Must have the legal status to live and work in Jamaica

Until probation is successfully completed, the officer will be required to report to the office 5 days per week unless specifically agreed. However, reasonable requests of up to two days a week working from home will be considered following the probation period.
