Can’t Wait to Learn and TeamUp are the War Child Alliance’s flagship evidence-based interventions, meeting the needs of children in crises across the world, this opportunity is a chance to work with both of the global teams that support this work at scale.

Can’t Wait to Learn (CWTL) provides an evidence- based solution to close the education gap and offers children the opportunity to continue to learn. Playing educational games strengthens children’s foundational numeracy and literacy skills, contributes to their improved psychosocial wellbeing and increases their chances to successfully complete formal primary education. Can’t Wait to Learn can operate in a stand-alone modality as well as in support to formal and accelerated education programs. Aligning with national curricula, over the last decade, Can’t Wait to Learn has built basic Math and Reading skills amongst 200,000 young learners in Ukraine, Uganda, Chad, Sudan, South Sudan, Lebanon, and Jordan, thereby building a strong foundation for children to continue in formal primary education.

TeamUp is a psychosocial support intervention developed by War Child, Save the Children and UNICEF Netherlands to meet the urgent psychosocial needs of children affected by war. TeamUp is an inclusive psychosocial support intervention with structured movement-based group activities based on play, movement, and body awareness for children aged 6-18 years. TeamUp decreases stress and increases wellbeing. Over the past years, TeamUp has grown rapidly and is now active in 25 countries collaborating with a wide range of organizations. With the new scaling strategy the TeamUp Global Team will focus on establishing and strengthening partnerships with global organizations working towards reaching millions of children.

Opportunity

This 6-month position will support both Can’t Wait to Learn and TeamUp teams at War Child to secure funding and coordinate joint fundraising efforts with our strategic partners. This role requires a blend of fundraising expertise, knowledge of donor landscape supporting scaling, relationship management and knowledge and experience in joint fundraising with partners.

The TeamUp and Can’t Wait to Learn global teams are based at the War Child Alliance and consists of colleagues that are experienced, passionate and enthusiastic about all they do. Result Areas

Donor engagement and cultivation

  • Explore new funders interested to support development of scaling (systems) for both Can’t Wait to Learn and TeamUp in line with the WCA scaling strategy.
  • Coordinate joint donor outreach efforts, leveraging collective networks and resources of partners to maximize fundraising opportunities
  • Facilitate partner engagement in donor meetings, presentations and events to showcase the impact and value proposition of CWTL and TeamUp

Grant writing and proposal development

  • Lead (joint) development of grant proposals, funding applications and project pitches
  • Coordinate timely submission of funding proposals and reports, ensuring compliance with donor requirements and deadlines

Support the development of a joint fundraising strategy

• Coordinate and collaborate with fundraisers from the War Child Alliance to develop a joint fundraising strategy for CWTL and TeamUp.

• Engage partners in strategic planning sessions to identify funding priorities and target donors

• Develop a fundraising package for (scaling) partners

Align fundraising strategy with general scaling communications strategy

  • Coordinate with War Child Alliance communications team to align fundraising strategy and goals with general scaling WCA communications strategy
  • Develop scaling assets that support War Child Alliances scaling strategy and goals

Knowledge and Skills

• Strong internal and external stakeholder management.

• Experience in coordination of proposal development with various partners

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (English), fluency in French, Arabic and or Spanish a significant plus.
  • Networking Abilities to build and maintain relationships with donors and other stakeholders
  • Teamwork and Collaboration, the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and able to set priorities while working for two programme teams.
  • Interest / passion to work for education and wellbeing for children

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in the development/humanitarian sector .
  • Experience working with large scale development/humanitarian donors such as ECHO, ECW, GPE, DFA, FCDO, USAID etc.
  • Experience supporting funding with donors with a focus on innovation, scale, and impact, including foundations, philanthropies, and impact investors.
  • Experience with outcome based financing

Budget

The consultant is to submit a budget for this work including daily consultancy fee including of VAT and taxes related (inclusive) within the suggested parameters indicated above. Budgets should not exceed 350 euro a day. Value-for-money and quality considerations will be part of the selection process.

Terms and Conditions

Supervision and Reporting: The consultant will be responsible to keep War Child abreast of progress through periodic updates (frequency to be decided at inception phase). They will be supervised by War Child’s Can’t Wait to Learn Programme Director, Luke Stannard.

The consultant will use her/his own office/resources/materials and laptop in the execution of this assignment.

The selected candidate will be contracted for the consultancy and will commence work shortly after selection and successful references. A services agreement will be signed between consultant and War Child Alliance with the TOR attached.
