Job Description

What you will be doing in this role:

The Communications Specialist will implement multimedia communications strategies to help build and elevate Cedars-Sinai’s national and international reputation. A key member of the External Communications team, the Communications Specialist will collaborate with clinical and research leaders and other collaborators to develop and write news stories, press releases and media pitches about Cedars-Sinai programs, initiatives and healthcare professionals. The Communications Specialist will pitch stories and other content to journalists to secure earned media placements with top-tier local and national news outlets. This individual also will support the Cedars-Sinai digital newsroom by setting up content in the platform and deliver other assignments as needed for various programs and audiences.

The Communications Specialist will need to demonstrate exceptional, accurate writing ability and highly effective, courteous, professional and respectful communication skills in daily interactions with physicians, nurses, staff members and others. This individual should be able to juggle multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with frequent interruptions. They will also need to be extremely comfortable learning various technological platforms, including the Newsroom. The Communication Specialist also will collaborate with others in Marketing and Communications and with other Cedars-Sinai programs, staff and faculty to execute projects and meet organizational objectives. They must be a true team-oriented collaborator who can clearly and effectively communicate with colleagues and journalists.

Qualifications

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, public health, marketing, public/media relations, media relations or another relevant major is required.

• A minimum of three years’ experience writing and delivering news content and related communications experience required, preferably in a hospital or healthcare-related organization.
