Communications Specialist in Baltimore, Maryland

Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Medicine are currently seeking a Communications Specialist to support the Johns Hopkins Public Safety (JHPS) with its communications needs. This role will be reporting to the Strategic Director of Communications, JHPS, the role will actively collaborate with members of the institution’s communications offices to ensure widespread, consistent, and effective internal and external communication efforts, fostering a sense of inclusion and teamwork.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists in writing, editing, and placing promotional materials for print, broadcast, and digital media.

  • Assists in writing communications plans and preparing remarks and speeches for external communication.

  • Creates, assesses, reviews, and posts communication materials for publications on the related websites. Researches and assesses the efficacy of web-based activities. Posts strategic information on all appropriate social media sites and platforms.

  • Maintains working knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), digital marketing, and website design.

  • Maintains shared information and calendar information on the department’s shared drives/Outlook calendars, OneDrive, and Google Drive to organize and store resources and materials for JHPS Communications.

  • Analyze and optimize SEO, web traffic and social stats and engagement.

  • Prepares postings of digital promotional materials (photos, stories, videos, etc.) Assists in the coordination of photography and video needs.

  • Develops marketing materials (brochures, signage, promotional merchandise) for events, recruitment, communications plans, JHPS Messaging Guides. Coordinates and executes all logistics for special events in accordance with JHPS event guidelines.

  • Helps execute media and/or marketing campaigns in line with JHPS communications office. The Communications Specialist should ensure all communications projects and marketing efforts comply with the University Branding Guidelines and JHU Use of Name Guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications or in related field

  • Two years related experience

  • Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula
