Position Summary

The Communications Coordinator will propose, write, and publish stories about MSU students, faculty and staff engaged in entrepreneurship & innovation activities across campus. The Communications Coordinator will provide MSU students with the information necessary to find out about our campus-wide programs, courses, and resources available to them throughout the year through social media posts, news releases, newsletters, and other related content.

Communications:

  • Compose, review, edit & produce articles, press releases, promotional pieces or reports in print or electronic media.

  • Review and/or edit drafts and info to check for content, readability, and style.

Social Media:

  • Monitor social media and engage with external audiences in electronic forums.

  • Assist with social media calendar planning and create, review, and edit posts.

Promotion:

  • Interact with students, student groups, and student interns to promote Burgess Institute programs, provide clarification, resolve concerns, explain requirements, processes, and/or explain goals of Burgess programs.

Project Coordination:

  • Research options for new projects as directed by the supervisor.

  • Communicate with vendors and staff to obtain and review quotes and proposals.

  • Implement and coordinate projects with and without intern support.

General:

  • Track and analyze relevant metrics and report out successes and challenges to staff and supervisors.

  • Other duties as assigned.

This position requires assisting the Communications and Event Manager in setting up and participating in Burgess Institute events.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or Public Relations; up to six months of related work experience in internal communications, news, print media, and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services; graphic design; word processing; desktop publishing; web design; presentation software; spreadsheet and/or database software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or Public Relations; six months of related work experience in internal communications, news, print media, and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services; graphic design; word processing; desktop publishing; web design; presentation software; spreadsheet and/or database software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • One to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in marketing communications.

  • Demonstrated experience and excellence in writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, especially related to marketing communications.

  • Effective organizational, time management, and project management skills.

  • Application and demonstration of strong editorial judgment.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with individuals and groups in diverse settings.

  • Coordinate & communicate with employees, departments, entrepreneurs, innovators and industry leaders.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines.

  • Experience with Adobe Suite, Task Management Platform (Asana, Monday, etc.) & Scheduling Platform (Later, SocialPilot, etc.) a plus.
