Background

The Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) is the worldwide membership-based network of national human rights institutions (NHRIs).

GANHRI promotes and strengthens NHRIs to be in compliance with the Paris Principles and provides leadership for the promotion and protection of human rights.

GANHRI provides a framework for NHRIs to work together and cooperate at the international level. We coordinate a wide range of activities, including annual meetings, international conferences, networks, training and capacity building.

GANHRI works in close partnership with the United Nations Human Rights Office – specifically with the National Institutions and Regional Mechanisms Section (NIRMS) – and with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). We also work closely with the four Regional Networks of NHRIs in Africa (NANHRI), the Americas (RINDHCA), the Asia Pacific (APF) and Europe (ENNHRI).

GANHRI is registered in Switzerland as a not-for-profit association. Our Head Office is located in Geneva at the Palais des Nations.

Duties and responsibilities

Within delegated authority and under the direct supervision of the Operations Manager, the Communications and Knowledge Management Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Develop and implement GANHRI’s communication and knowledge management strategy, in coordination with GANHRI’s Senior Communications Advisor
  • Manage GANHRI’s internal and external communications, and media relations where required, ensuring visibility, coherence, accuracy and timeliness of communications
  • Develop and manage GANHRI’s website and external and internal communications, knowledge management tools and repositories, including online knowledge management tools, members database and other materials
  • Develop and manage content for GANHRI’s social media channels, in close coordination with GANHRI’s Senior Communications Advisor and thematic staff
  • Coordinate and produce communication and knowledge content for publications, the website, the GANHRI newsletter, the GANHRI Annual Report, knowledge management tools, videos, in close coordination with thematic staff
  • Develop and implement communication and knowledge management tools, procedures and guidelines to ensure coherence of GANHRI’s communications and knowledge management, both for internal and external communication
  • Manage and popularise the GANHRI Knowledge Management Platform in collaboration with thematic staff; and work with providers and partners to support the functioning of the knowledge management platform
  • Coordinate and exchange with communications and knowledge management focal points from NHRI regional networks
  • Assist in supervising and coordinating the organisation of GANHRI events to ensure coherence and the relevance of the communication developed around these events
  • Contribute to institutional fundraising efforts
  • Perform other tasks as required

A successful candidate should bring:

  • An advanced university degree in communication, knowledge management, journalism, international relations, international law, political science or related fields
  • At least seven years of experience in public relations, media and communication and knowledge management, ideally in within the not-for-profit / NGO sector
  • Strong understanding of human rights
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and managing websites; experience using WordPress an advantage
  • Demonstrated experience managing social media content
  • Demonstrated experience in knowledge management
  • Excellent command of both English and French (oral expression and writing) and of additional other GANHRI language an asset
  • Creativity and innovation
