The Role:

We are looking to recruit a Civil Engineering Design Manager to join our growing team. Reporting to the Head of Civil Engineering, you will be responsible for resolving complex civil and structural design issues across our diverse project portfolio; reviewing and assuring that the designs we produce are safe, cost-effective and deliverable. You will advise and engage with Project Managers, Electrical Design Engineers, Site Managers as well as engaging directly with our clients.

You’ll be joining the Engineering and Design Team working at the heart of Ethical Power’s projects – predominately BESS and solar – across the whole lifecycle, from early concept development through to delivery. You will get to see the tangible results of your work and play your part in helping the UK’s journey to Net Zero!

The key responsibilities of the role are:

  • Supporting the Head of Civil Engineering with the creation of business policy and procedures in relation to civil design and civil construction.
  • Assisting the business in the standardisation of civil design drawings and construction methodology.
  • Scoping of Site Investigations to address key civil engineering design risks.
  • Working with the commercial and tendering teams to ensure that the proposed civil scope is compliant with Employer’s requirements, IDNO, DNO, TO, IEC and other International Standards
  • Assist the tendering team with civil design support for early project development phase.
  • Creation of detailed design specifications for Civil and Structural Engineering consultants.
  • Design assurance and verification of civil design against Employer Requirement’s, DNO/TO specifications, design specification, planning conditions and local authority specifications.
  • Real time response to site related queries on civil design.
  • Assisting the Operations team with Project Civil Engineering ITP and Tender packs.
  • Identifying opportunities for development of civil design as an in-house function.
  • Completing occasional site visits with local council and civils teams to ensure correct scope of works.
  • Identifying and developing value engineering opportunities within our designs.

The Person:

The ideal candidate will have a proven experience in a Civil Engineering Contracting/Consulting environment. You will have valuable experience of Civil and/or Structural Engineering Design working within Energy Generation, Electricity Transmission or Electricity Distribution area. Strong experience of simultaneously managing multiple stakeholders and projects is required.

The successful candidate will hold professional membership with the ICE or IStructE, together with a working knowledge of Structural Eurocodes and proven knowledge of CDM Regulations. Experience with AutoCAD is required.

The role holder will have a proactive nature and initiative-taking approach to projects, together with a passion for problem solving. You will have excellent attention to detail and be self-motivated, driven and goal orientated. A full driving licence is necessary for this role.

Ideally, the role holder will have a working knowledge of DNO and TO Technical Standards. Experience managing matrix teams would be beneficial. Experience working with IDNOs or ICPs, as well as temporary works design experience, would be an added bonus.
