The Opportunity

Plan International is seeking a senior-level, dynamic and motivated Child Participation and Accountability Technical Lead. The Child Participation and Accountability Technical Lead will be responsible for driving a global initiative, in collaboration with the Global Child Protection Area of Responsibility (AoR), to improve child participation and accountability in critical humanitarian responses and strengthen the capacity of child protection coordinators and coordination group members in this area.

The Technical lead is accountable for leading UN and NGO partners through a process of self-assessment, developing and disseminating global-level technical resources and tools, and capacity strengthening of senior humanitarian actors in order to strengthen child participation and accountability in CPHA responses. The Technical Lead is expected to lead the mobilisation of additional resources to secure funding to continue the global initiative.

The post-holder will lead on external positioning of Plan International within the humanitarian coordination system and among UN agencies and donors to influence key stakeholders on child participation and accountability in CPHA.

About You

Successful applicants will bring;

  • Significant experience in child protection programming, child participation and accountability with UN agencies, INGOs, NGOs, or other institutions at the global, regional, and country level, including direct experience in several humanitarian responses
  • Familiarity with Child Protection Minimum Standards, Sphere, Core Humanitarian Standard
  • Excellent understanding and familiarity working with global humanitarian architecture and cluster system, including leading inter-agency initiatives and initiatives across sectors
  • Previous experience of strengthening the capacity of humanitarian practitioners across different regions.
  • Experience leading the development and dissemination of global guidance notes, toolkits, training packages, advocacy materials and other resources on issues related to child protection in emergencies
  • Strong communication, analytical, and writing skills
  • Strong understanding of gender and inclusion considerations in programming
  • Demonstrated grant management experience
  • Ability to work well under pressure and take initiative with minimum direct supervision
  • Ability to build working relationships with multiple stakeholders
  • A flexible and collaborative work style, with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Fluency in English. Additional fluency in another language (French, Spanish, Arabic) also considered an asset
  • Ability to travel up to 2 – 3 weeks at a time (20% per year)
