About our role

An exciting opportunity exists for a Catering Chef to join a team of 3, reporting into our Development Chef & Culinary Trainer. The purpose of this role is to assist with all aspects of working and preparing food in the Culinary Centre and to be responsible for the running of the in-house catering service. This is a permanent full time opportunity, 37.5 hours per week, working Monday – Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm.

What you will do

  • Preparation of hot and cold food for the purpose of catering, evaluations, Sensory sessions, internal and external meetings within Simplot head office

  • Develop excellent working relationships with internal stakeholders and proactively liaise/communicate cross-functionally

  • Assist with all Sensory functions including Sensory pre-planning, preparation and cooking of products for Sensory, data entry and session bookings

  • Provide technical expertise, advice and service to sensory and culinary teams

  • Ensure best price is achieved on purchased non Simplot food items and small equipment

  • Manage effective external supplier relationships to ensure the cost-effective delivery of food items

  • Sourcing and shopping of food items and products for cook-ups, presentations and catering as required

  • Responsible for food stock in all areas within the kitchen, storage fridge, and storage freezers maintaining food in edible condition through diligent stock rotation and requisition system

About you

  • Certificate 3 in Commercial Cookery Qualification

  • Occupational Health & Hygiene Certificates and Food Handling Certificate

  • Experience food preparing, handling and serving

  • Ability to manage a budget and cost control for food stocks

  • Ability to keep accurate and up to date records

  • Good communication skills with the ability to build internal and external relationships

  • Experience in maintaining a clean, hygienic and workable environment

  • Ability to conduct physical work/lifting will be required

  • Ability to work as a team member

  • Proven track record in cookery

  • A proven passion for delivering a consistently high standard
