Overall Summary
Legal Action Worldwide (LAW) has an immediate opening for a Case Management Paralegal Consultant. In this position, the consultant will support attorneys in strategic litigation on behalf of survivors of human rights abuses and international crimes (war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide). LAW represents survivors in domestic, regional, and international courts, and works with teams in offices in North America, Europe, the Middle East, East Africa, and South Asia. As part of LAW’s migration to a new case management platform, we seek support from an organized and efficient paralegal to operationalize the platform.
Position Description
Reports to: Head of Litigation or Programme Manager or
Duration: 4 – 5 months agreement, (with possibility of extension), starting December 2024
Location: In LAW’s office either Kyiv, Ukraine or New York City, United State of America. Applicants must have the right to work in their selected location. Hybrid/flexible work arrangements allowed with at least three days a week in the office. Fully remote work considered for exceptional candidates.
Hours: Full-time /flexible hours for the right candidate can be considered for the assignment
Rates: Monthly full time service fee: 3000-3500 USD (depending on experience)
Deliverables:
- Migrate three country teams’ existing case file data into the case management system.
- Data entry of a minimum of three country teams’ new and planned cases into the case management system.
- Organise and quality control ongoing case files for a minimum of three country teams.
- Enter data gathered from program teams including litigation updates and sensitive client information, into LAW’s Case Management database.
- Liaise with program teams to understand their case management priorities.
- Take minutes in regular team meetings and follow up on action points.
- Conduct research into the factual and legal backgrounds of cases.
- Monitor and track court filings, decisions, and correspondence with litigation partners.
- Perform analytical and administrative functions as assigned.
- Any other relevant tasks as assigned by LAW Staff
Qualifications and Experience Required:
- Must have legal right to work in Kyiv, Ukraine or New York, United States of America;
- Bachelor’s degree in law or related field;
- Minimum one year demonstrated paralegal, case management, or criminal justice experience.
- Track record of strong research and writing skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Excel, Lexis/Nexis and/or Clear.
- Ability to multitask and work in a team-oriented environment
- Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, self-motivator, and able to manage multiple assignments.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed, survivor-centered, gender-competent approaches to investigations and litigation.
Preferred Requirements
- Language skills: Fluent English, knowledge of one of the local languages relevant to LAW’s work (Ukrainian, Arabic, Rohingya, or Burmese)
