Position Title: Associate Director – Solution Architect

Reporting To: Senior Director MQ Tech@Lilly

Location: Full-time on-site in Raheen, Limerick

Lilly is currently constructing a Next Generation Biotech Drug Substance Manufacturing Facility in Limerick, Ireland. This facility will be Lilly’s most technically advanced manufacturing site and will include next-generation manufacturing technologies and advanced data collection and analysis platforms that will deliver improvements in safety and quality, and increased productivity and process performance.

Main Purpose and Objectives of Position:

The solution architect is accountable for the strategy definition of end-to-end solutions, aligned to Lilly operational, architectural, security, and design standards and principles, as well as overseeing the implementation of that strategy. Implementation includes planning, analysing, designing, testing, and deploying MQ-IT business solutions in response to business needs. 

The Solution Architect will be responsible for developing and leading technical solutions supporting MQ digital solutions. You will need to engage multiple teams to define technical requirements, develop designs, and align technology that enables the platform architecture all while meeting MQ GMP regulatory expectations.

A solution architect possess a deep working knowledge of application architectures, platform capabilities, and cloud solutions. In this role you will partner with global Tech@Lilly partner and external suppliers to design and implement applications, platforms, and cloud solutions across the Lilly technology portfolio.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Understands business drivers and business capabilities (future and current state) and assists with developing system designs and requirements to drive the organization’s targeted business outcomes. Understands emerging technology trends and disruptions and the practical application of existing, new, and emerging technologies to enable new and evolving business.
  • Lead requirements capturing exercises, understanding the “what” and “why” from a business perspective before figuring out technology “how”. Partner with internal and external technical teams to understand and influence the appropriate menu of technologies and tools to be used for solution delivery efforts.
  • Analyses the business-IT environment (run, grow and transform the business) to detect critical deficiencies, legacy, and technical debt, and recommends solutions for improvement.
  • Facilitates the evaluation and selection of software product standards and services, as well as the design of standard and custom software configurations.

Ability to :

  • All solution architecture roles should have a foundational set of knowledge in:
  • Demonstrated communication, leadership, teamwork, project delivery, and problem-solving skills
  • Experienced in architectural processes (e.g. blueprinting, reference architecture, governance, etc.)
  • Experience designing or delivering AI enabled products or services
  • Manufacturing knowledge and business acumen
  • Professional experience in delivering software solutions that span the development lifecycle, e.g., design, development, testing, deployment, and support.
  • Experience with formal project management methodologies, agile frameworks (including Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, etc.) and working knowledge of associated practices and tools
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and communication skills, working across agile and diverse teams
  • Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases, like PostgreSQL and DynamoDB
  • Knowledge of frontend web development languages, like JavaScript, React.js, HTML and CSS
  • Knowledge of various backend development languages, like node.js and Python
  • AWS or Microsoft Certified Cloud Solution Architect Professional
  • Experience with cloud-based provide Restful API services for integrations
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively about complex business problems and resolve these through new approaches
  • You will enable technical delivery of SPE software components including understanding and addressing risk, privacy, cybersecurity and legal constraints on project delivery
  • You will provide technical evaluation of proposed project ideas, software changes and future product releases
  • You will drive the development and execution of our platform innovation roadmap, including creating working proof of concept models in new technology spaces directly connected to future Software Product Engineering capabilities
  • You will mentor more junior members of the technical team
  • You will build effective relationships with key technical resources and architects to influence technology solutions specifically related to Software Product Engineering systems
  • You will provide guidance to Lilly and non-Lilly software delivery teams in best practice Agile delivery of software components of Lilly’s platform

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science
  • Minimum 8 years of IT experience or software product development
  • Minimum 3 years hands-on experience using AWS or AZURE cloud native services
