Job Title: Assistant Quantity SurveyorLocation: Brighouse, West Yorkshire (Site-based)Salary: £30,000 – £38,000 per annum (Dependent on experience)Contact: Beth Marshall, Building CareersAbout the Opportunity:Building Careers is delighted to be working with a leading regional contractor on an exciting new build affordable housing scheme in Brighouse. This is a fantastic opportunity for a driven and ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a dynamic team and contribute to a project that will make a real difference to the local community.The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the commercial management of the project, working closely with the Senior Quantity Surveyor and Project Manager. This role offers excellent exposure to all aspects of quantity surveying within a fast-paced construction environment.Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting with the preparation of cost plans and estimates.
- Procurement of subcontractors and materials.
- Managing subcontractor accounts and valuations.
- Preparing and submitting valuations to the client.
- Monitoring and controlling project costs.
- Identifying and managing variations.
- Preparing monthly cost reports.
- Working closely with site management to ensure accurate record keeping.
- Attending site progress meetings.
- Contributing to the overall commercial success of the project.
Essential Requirements:
- A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related field (e.g., HNC/HND, Degree).
- Experience working as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, ideally within the residential sector.
- A good understanding of construction methods and processes.
- Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A proactive and enthusiastic approach to work.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- A full UK driving licence.
Desirable Requirements:
- Experience working on affordable housing projects.
- Experience using construction management software (e.g., COINS, Causeway).
