The regional focus of the Programme includes Latin America, the Caribbean and Canada.PIE Americas has a vision of a just and thriving society in the Americas powered by renewable energy. We carry out strategy development, grant-making, and convening in support of a just and equitable transition of the power sector, in time to achieve the world’s commitments made at the Paris Climate Conference in 2015.The postholder for this role will care passionately about climate action and clean energy and strengthening the capacities of clean power allies, including civil society organisations, to shape the way forward. You will have a strong knowledge of and deep interest in the energy sector and the policy environment of climate. You will value the grassroots, public campaigning, technical analysis, working with government, diplomacy and all sectors of the economy in equal measure. You will be a brilliant convener, networker and have the instincts to be a responsible grant-maker and partner to our network.The role will require engagement at both a national level, particularly in some of our Latin American focus countries, and on priority themes, across the region. This role will need to work closely with the PIE Americas team, and a broader ecosystem of partners beyond PIE, to develop the PIE Americas Programme and Team to the fullest and the most impactful extent. PIE seeks to back local leaders to effect progress, drawing on international experience where helpful.Key ResponsibilitiesThe Americas Senior Programme Officer will:· Deliver and proactively support work to accelerate a clean energy transition across the Americas region. Including:o Support strategy development, implementation and project management: support the development and the delivery of Americas strategy to align with PIE Americas Programme’s goals, priorities, and budget; support the development and implementation of strategies with our network of grantees and partners; proactively review developments that may impact the operating context or PIE Americas Programme, and continuously propose where there are needs to adapt and revise strategies and tactics.o Grant-making: Support grant-making and grant-making strategy for the Americas; identify relevant grantees in coordination/collaboration with PIE Team colleagues (mainly Americas Team); lead or support the liaison with grantees; monitor and evaluate progress and impact of grants; help to strengthen grantee capacities (where necessary); support the development and incubation of new partnerships, initiatives and organizations in the Americas (where necessary); take the analytical products developed by grantees and help draw links between them and encourage collaboration; ensure the entire grant-making cycle complies with PIE’s internal procedures and standards. Work closely with the Grants Team at PIE to secure full alignment of the budget and timeline of the grant making processes.o Forward-looking research activities: compile, research and analyse topic areas which are necessary to deliver PIE Americas’ goals; scope the landscape and identify opportunities on emerging topicso Coordination, communication and content production: liaise and explore joint opportunities with existing and potential grantees, partners and networks, and other relevant or connected programmes inside PIE; ensure proper and timely dissemination of information, and consistency and complementarity of different projects. Support PIE Team members in generating content & materials (including presentations) for fund-raising, our Board and other network needs.o Convenings / Events: lead or support the organisation & delivery of events and convenings in LAC (as required).o Network development: Support and see the build-up of regional partnerships across the policymaking, business, finance, media, academic and civil society communities active on the energy transition objectives. This will include alliances with regional climate foundations as key partners.· Enable and support the effective management, coordination and organisation of the Americas team and the work of PIE’s Head of Americas, including liaison with varied stakeholders, to achieve PIE Americas’ goals and objectives. This includes securing: well-managed processes; excellent stakeholder engagement; a strong, efficient, well-organised and collaborative team; and impactful work/projects designed to deliver PIE Americas’ goals and objectives.RequirementsExperience and competencies

  • A University degree on relevant background such as environmental science, social sciences, climate and energy, international politics, economics and finance, law, and journalism.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in academia, media, research, international organisation, business, government, think tank or NGO.
  • Very strong project and team management and coordination skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Relevant experience of bringing about change through, for example, public campaigning, advocacy, network mobilization or inside an agency, business or government setting.
  • An understanding of energy, power sector, and/or climate is required
  • A demonstrable track record of work in or on Latin America.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English. Portuguese is a plus.
  • An understanding of international climate politics and policy is a plus.
  • An understanding of power sector data, market design, and system modelling is a plus.
  • Ability to establish and maintain trusting relationships across different sectors, a diverse group of partners, including many working in different cultural contexts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications.
  • A commitment to the mission and values of PIE. A demonstrable ability to self-manage and self-organise establishing your own workspace and schedule.
