A Brief Overview
Primary Care nursing is a specialty within the nursing profession that encompasses the care of individuals across the life span who present with physical, emotional, or psychological alterations of health. Primary Care nurses provide episodic and chronic nursing care to patients of all ages and all health conditions remotely by telephone or web portal. Primary Care nurses have adapted nursing process to include components of triage/assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of human responses when caring for patients.
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- 1 year Nursing experience. Preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide on-going patient care. (Required proficiency)
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public. (Required proficiency)
- Ability to maintain quality control standards. (Required proficiency)
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. (Required proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Nurse – KSBN Required
What you will do
- Collects pertinent data and information relative to the patient, situation, or setting.
- Analyzes assessment data to determine actual or potential problems, and issues.
- Develops a collaborative plan encompassing strategies to achieve expected outcomes. Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or situation.
- Implements identified plan through coordination of care and employs strategies to promote health and wellness.
- Evaluates progress toward attainment of goals and outcomes.
- Delivers professional nursing care guided by Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring illustrated by creating caring relationships, taking time to have uninterrupted moments with patients and displaying unconditional acceptance and respect.
- Promotes a mutually respectful environment that encourages the exchange of ideas and supports the effectiveness of professional relationships and integrates ethics in all aspects of practice.
- Demonstrates advocacy in all roles and settings.
- Practices Diversity, Equity and Inclusion principles in their daily work by respecting others’ uniqueness, perspectives, backgrounds or beliefs.
- Communicates effectively in all areas of professional practice.
- Mentors nurses new to their role for the purpose of ensuring successful enculturation, orientation, competence, and emotional support. Supports students to enhance their knowledge, skills, and abilities.
