The Armed Conflict Location & Event Data organization (ACLED) is a disaggregated data collection, analysis, and crisis mapping institution. The ACLED team collects conflict information; conducts analysis to describe, explore, and test conflict scenarios; and makes both data and analysis open for free use by the public. ACLED’s work is regularly used to inform journalism, academic research, and public discourse on conflict, and to support practitioners and policymakers. ACLED is the highest quality and most widely used real-time data and analysis source on political violence and protest around the world.

The role

ACLED is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, detailed-oriented problem-solver to take on the role of Access Officer on our Grants & Development team. The Access Officer is the heart of ACLED’s Access team, ensuring users are able to access and effectively use ACLED data and tools. The Access Officer will also be responsible for supporting ACLED’s licensing efforts, which are integral to its long-term sustainability and enacting ACLED’s recently finalized “Spark” Strategic Plan 2027. This plan envisions significant growth in ACLED’s work supporting data-driven decision-making, and the Access team will play a key role in enabling this growth and ACLED’s broader vision of data for a more peaceful world.

The Access Officer will be joining a supportive global team of remote workers and can perform their duties from any location with reliable internet service.

This position is fully remote and can be done from any location with reliable internet service. The start date for this position is January 2025. This position reports to the Associate Fundraising Coordinator, and will work closely with the Senior Database Officer.

Specific roles and responsibilities

The Access Officer will be responsible for the following:

Access Management

  • Manage emails that come through the Access inbox, ensuring they are ticketed for the correct team.
  • Address user queries and troubleshoot issues that come through the Access inbox where the support needed is technical or access-related in nature.
  • As needed, serve as the point of contact for existing clients regarding questions relating to their contract, access, ACLED methodology, TOUs, coverage, etc.

Data Management & Analysis

  • Support the entry, review, management, and maintenance of user and licensing data on Salesforce, Asana, ACLED’s Access Portal, and through other relevant tools.
  • Support the production of dashboards and visualizations as needed for reporting, tracking, and analysis purposes using data in Salesforce, ACLED’s Access Portal, and other sources.
  • Support the Senior Database Officer’s analysis of user and licensing data as needed.

Public Sector Licensing

  • Support the Associate Fundraising Coordinator throughout the licensing process for public sector clients.
  • Draft quotes and access agreements for potential public sector clients.
  • Organize and file public sector client documentation, such as contracts and nondisclosure agreements.

Reporting and Administration

  • Support regular reports on Access Portal metrics (number of users by category, number of accounts, active users, top downloaders, etc.).
  • Support regular reporting on licensing, renewals, and account management.

Other

  • Conduct research to support public sector licensing, as needed.
  • Provide ad hoc support on administrative and coordination tasks related to public sector client management as assigned by the Associate Fundraising Coordinator.

Skills and competencies

ACLED is seeking applicants who have the following skills and experience:

  • One to three years of experience in fundraising and development and/or outreach work at a non-profit organization or comparable business (preferably focused on peacebuilding, conflict, human rights, and/or global affairs)
  • Experience working with data, at an organization that produces data, or one that has a SaaS model
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • At ease working within evolving systems and processes (dynamic and flexible)
  • Ability to work remotely with limited supervision
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Good judgment and high attention to detail
  • Experience with Salesforce (essential)
  • Experience with Google Workspace and related tools (essential)
  • Familiarity with leading business communication platforms, e.g., Slack (preferred)
  • A bachelor’s or higher degree in a field relevant to ACLED’s work (required)
  • Fluency in English (essential)
  • Fluency in other languages is a major asset.
