CCC’s virtual Tutoring Enterprise Center (VTEC) provides for an equitable distribution of tutoring expertise across colleges, delivering one-on-one and group expert tutoring services to students via online instruction. The Center provides expanded tutoring hours, increasing the availability of tutors with subject matter expertise in various disciplines to students in a virtual, online format. The Tutoring Enterprise Center supplements current tutoring centers at the campuses providing in person and virtual tutoring services

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor-Instructional Quality & Innovation or an assigned administrator, an Academic Support Specialist-VTEC (Remote) is responsible for supporting and coordinating the day-to-day operations of Remote Enterprise Tutoring and supporting the shared work of the Academic Support Centers at colleges and satellite locations, supporting the Centers and Remote Enterprise tutoring to provide a learning environment with technology and resources that support Students and their academic success.

This position provides administrative leadership to professional tutors working for Remote Enterprise tutoring; ensures the delivery and quality of those tutoring services; assures optimal scheduling to meet students’ needs; and creates a welcoming and supporting environment for students seeking tutoring assistance and academic support services through Remote Enterprise Tutoring. The Academic Support Specialist-VTEC (Remote) facilitates district-wide professional development resources and events related to tutoring services and also informs the AVC-Instructional Quality & Innovation and College Tutoring Directors of any performance and service-related issues which require management intervention and response. Performs related duties as required.

This role is fully remote by design; it is devoted to coordinating services during off-peak hours including times when CCC sites are closed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Works remotely with AVC-Instructional Quality & Innovation and others to create and maintain a Remote Enterprise tutoring schedule to effectively staff and operate the service. Participates in scheduling and making assignments based on the availability of tutors and students’ needs and the guidance of Academic Support Centers at the colleges.
  • Monitors and ensures Remote Enterprise Tutoring provides an atmosphere conducive to learning
  • Stays abreast of best practices for remote tutoring services in higher education and may collaborate with IT and Tutoring Directors /Coordinators on current and future best practices.
  • May make recommendations to College Academic Centers on practices, software, etc in remote tutoring.
  • Facilitates on-going virtual professional development training, along with the office of Instructional Quality and Innovation and College Academic Centers, to further develop the skills of tutoring staff and to ensure tutors are equipped with the resources and tools needed to best serve students.
  • In collaboration with College Academic Support Centers’ leadership, gathers and compiles data including number and frequency of students using the tutoring service, student success and retention rates, and student satisfaction with services.
  • Works with AVC-Instructional Quality & Innovation and Academic Support Center leadership to analyze and interpret tutoring services data to assess tutoring services and performance, and to assist with preparing reports.
  • Develops resources to enhance Remote Enterprise tutoring services, including but not limited to technology guidance for tutors and students.
  • Assists the AVC-Instructional Quality & Innovation in reviewing Remote Enterprise Tutoring operations and creating program initiatives to enhance tutoring services to address student needs.
  • Assists in creating and distributing marketing materials to promote the availability of Remote Enterprise tutoring services.
  • Informs AVC-Instructional Quality & Innovation and Academic Support Center Directors of any tutorial program issues including tutor/tutee attendance, performance issues, space and time requests, and unmet student requests for tutoring in relation to Remote Enterprise tutoring.
  • Responds to and resolves student and tutor complaints and concerns related specifically to Remote Enterprise Tutoring operations.

Reports To Assoc VC-Instructional Quality & Innovation or a Designated Administrator

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Education or a discipline or field of study related to the needs of the Tutoring Center. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Two years of work experience in teaching and/or tutoring, or in an academic support services role in a higher education environment.
  • One year of work experience directly facilitating remote tutoring in a higher education environment.
  • Prior experience working face-to-face with students in an instructional environment
  • A combination of education and experience may be taken into consideration based on the applicant’s credentials, provided that the minimum degree requirement is met.
  • Bilingual fluency preferred
  • Off peak morning, evening, and weekend hours required
  • Employees working remotely are responsible for providing a stable internet environment with a connection speed of at least 300 megabytes per second (Mbps).
  • Knowledge of current educational technology and software and ability to incorporate best uses into tutoring services and support
  • Knowledge of best practices for delivering tutoring support at the post-secondary instructional level
  • Knowledge of applied learning and other learning modalities
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills
