DescriptionThe DepartmentWe are looking for someone to manage the development of, and day to day operations, of our international relationships. This role will work closely with the Partner and Chief Brand Officer, Elliot Moss and International Development Partner, Adam Rose in delivering our international strategy. There will be a particular focus on South East Asia and Middle East and you will work closely with the BD Heads of our offices in Singapore and Hong Kong, our Country Representative in Israel and the Partners responsible of our efforts in Saudi Arabia. You will also work with those partners most involved in international collaboration.Duties and ResponsibilitiesAs the International Operations Manager, you will be responsible for developing our international relationships. You will help deliver on our international strategy and prioritise those initiatives that will make the most impact. A key focus will be to co-ordinate the BD opportunities between London, Singapore, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia and Israel, as well as our wider international contact strategy. You will have day-to-day contact with a variety of key stakeholders, including Partners and fee earners in order to manage the operation of our international efforts. The role will also involve a close working relationship with the BD team in each practice. A deep understanding of how a law firm operates will be pivotal in enabling you to deliver in this role.The main areas of focus for this role will be:Coordination
- Liaising with the teams in Singapore and Hong Kong to assist with delivery of their business development and communications plans and specifically their collateral, websites, events and other activity as well as coordinating support from London.
- Supporting the Israel Country Representative to assist with delivery of the relevant business plan, coordinating support from the UK.
- Deliver the BD and marketing plan for the Middle East, working closely with the Head of Middle East and the team on the ground. Ensuring that international BD trips coordinated across the firm and with the non-UK offices so that they have focused objectives, maximise the opportunities for each trip and provide broader firmwide benefits where possible.
- Communicating the international offerings (especially as they bring new capabilities in) to the wider firm and ensuring that relevant firm collateral reflects those offerings.
- Helping to create opportunities for colleagues in Singapore, Hong Kong, Saudi and Israel to build their relationships with the lawyers and other specialists in the London office.
- Work with our Intermediaries Manager and Department BD to co-ordinate any international intermediary relationships.
- Supporting key fee earners with active, organised and programmatic engagement with the IBA (especially preparing for the annual conference), AIJA and Legalink, working with them to ensure the most impactful participation at key events.
- Developing firm wide plans for engagement and monitoring of their delivery of identified intermediaries (e.g. independent law firms in specific regions).
- Developing firm wide plans for our regional desks and support their work throughout the year (e.g. LatAm/Iberia desk, French Desk) capturing data on referrals and regional client data.
- Analyse clients data to identify international opportunities and discuss with the Partners to maximise efforts.
- Preparing lawyers for overseas lawyer meetings, including attending them when appropriate.
- Working with the Academy team to ensure the effective delivery of cross cultural training.
- Monitor budgets and travel. Sign off expenses and work with the Practice BD teams to monitor where we travel and the ROI (where possible).
- Support the fee earners in developing international plans and ambitions for their practices, working alongside the BD teams in each practice.
- Work closely with the Professional Support Lawyers (PSLs), so as to ensure that all members of the department (and business development) are aware of key issues and trends internationally.
- Organise specific events for international audience, such as the International Next Gen Drinks reception.
Act as a central, international Hub
- Act as a central source for firm-wide enquiries relating to all things international, from finding law firms in obscure places to producing reports on potential opportunities.
Mishcon Inside/International Comms (working with colleagues in BD)
- Create marketing collateral that furthers the Firm’s reputation (including, but not limited to, PowerPoint presentations, brochures, one pagers on the Firm, credential documents).
- Manage the quarterly London & the World newsletter which goes out to over 1,500 contacts.
- Regularly update the relationships map on Mishcon Knowledge to ensure we select and list the best firms in each jurisdiction.
- Update the foreign language knowledge groups (Mishcon colleagues) on a quarterly basis.
- Manage the relationship with translators.
- Internal promotion of various services via Mishcon Knowledge and regularly update and review the external pages.
Skills/ExperienceWe are looking for an individual who is able to integrate themselves in our business; who has a strong interest in the business of law.Candidates must be able to demonstrate:
- International experience (ideally, knowledge of a second language).
- Experience of working in a law firm or with fee earners.
- Proven capability to engage effectively with stakeholders across all levels of the organisation. Ability to collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent research, writing and presentational skills.
- Experience of working with and manipulating data to identify key themes/trends.
- Initiative, resilience and a ‘can do’ attitude.
- The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with energy, enthusiasm and drive.
- The ability to build collaborative relationships across the firm.
