School/Directorate: School of EngineeringThe University of Manchester is making many strategic investments in Computer Science.We offer a Lectureship or Senior Lectureship in Cyber Security at the Department of Computer Science. The appointment will further strengthen the research profile of the Systems and Software Security (S3) research group at the University of Manchester, the interdisciplinary Centre for Digital Trust and Society (CDTS), and the growing activities in cyber security.We seek an outstanding candidate with a vision of significantly impacting cyber-security research. You should have major strengths in core cyber security with an emphasis in one or more areas: network security, applied cryptography, and cyber-physical system security in various domains, including energy, transportation, finance, etc.The successful candidate should have the following research profile:

  • Excellent knowledge of network security (e.g., intrusion and anomaly detection and prevention, denial-of-service attacks and countermeasures, wireless security, software-defined networks) and/or applied cryptography (e.g., algorithms and protocols, key management, real-world applications such as secure messaging, secure computation techniques)
  • Good knowledge of cyber-physical system security (e.g., IoT, botnet, lightweight security).
  • The ability to conduct basic and independent research demonstrated by existing publications in journals and conferences such as NDSS, CCS, S&P, USENIX Security.
  • The ability to write grant proposals.
