Project Overview

The Project includes the design, procurement, installation, and commissioning of 3 new bucket-wheel reclaimers including associated structural, mechanical, electrical and communications services.

The Project also includes the design and construction of associated off-board scope including bulk earthworks, civil infrastructure, structural works and electrical upgrades to support the functionally safe operation of the new reclaimers.

Job Summary:

The Area Field Engineer Marine, Earthworks & Concrete will be responsible for leading a team of discipline field engineers performing quality assurance and quantity verification tasks associated with the Marine, Earthworks & Concrete packages.

This role is responsible for ensuring all site engineering activities and construction operations for the relevant packages are completed in accordance with the Engineering Specifications and Drawings.

You will also provide engineering assistance to superintendents, directs assigned personnel in meeting cost and time schedules, verifies materials, equipment, and quality and assures results meet design requirements. The role requires the individual to drive challenges to a prompt resolution to support the construction schedule.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the activities of assigned construction field engineers, such as the application of drawings, specifications, and subcontracts.

  • Directs preparation of quantity listings of field purchased material and equipment. Initiates requisitions for field purchases.

  • Supervises preparation of construction drawings and schedules. Supervises design of temporary construction facilities and ensures preparation of “as built” drawings and other job plans.

  • Assists subordinate construction engineers and superintendents in:

  • Interpreting design drawings.

  • Monitoring equipment installation and planning for delivery of construction materials and equipment.

  • Other tasks as designated.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Required bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience

  • On a large project, functions as a lead discipline engineer, coordinating related discipline activities and interfacing with other areas/disciplines on the jobsite. On a small to medium-sized project, performs the duties of a lead engineer in an area, coordinating and directing a variety of disciplines, or performs the duties as a Project Field Engineer or Project Field Quality Control Engineer coordinating activities related to the operation of the assigned operating section of the jobsite.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Technical knowledge of a specialised engineering discipline, cost, scheduling and/or contracts administration relating to the construction of heavy industrial or commercial complexes.

  • Demonstrated leadership in a team-based environment.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the application and requirements of the Project Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) Handbook and the Bechtel Core Processes as they relate to area of responsibility.

  • Familiar with Bechtel’s Business Ethics handbook and policies.

  • Prior experience supervising and administering subcontractors.

  • Knowledge of Bechtel’s “Zero Accidents” safety program.

  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications in accordance with current Bechtel Standard Application Program (BSAP) standards.

  • Knowledge of the use of subcontracts; knowledge of the contractor/ subcontractor’s responsibilities contained in subcontract documents.
