Project Background

The She Leads project is designed to contribute to the institutionalization of meaningful participation with the influence of the Girls and Young Women (GYW) in both formal and informal institutions. With this project, the aim is to realize the development goals and the gender-focused commitments of Jordan, including UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 5: “achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls.” Therefore, through the She Leads project, Plan International’s work is focused on an inclusive setting offering all people from the GYW to participate in a diverse environment regardless of their (religion, nationality, ethnicity, colour, etc.). this 5-year this project, aims to: 1) promote positive social norms in Jordan to unlock girls’ and young women’s potential, 2) enable the civil society in Jordan to implement gender-sensitive programming and promote meaningful participation of GYW, and 3) the ambition is for the national legislative environment to adopt a gender-sensitive approach by 2025. through the She Leads project; Plan International’s efforts are aligned with Jordan’s commitments to reforming the public sector and integrating equal opportunities based on non-discrimination principles. Additionally, efforts will be coordinated along with the existing projects of the Dutch Embassy, specifically those related to gender questions and women’s rights, ensuring the maximum level of connection and synergy. The She Leads program is a strategic partnership (consortium) that includes INGOs, national institutions, and civil society organizations and is part of a global/regional program that advocates for girls’ and young women’s rights.

In Jordan, the She Lead project will principally target the following groups:

  • Adolescent girls and boys aged 10 – 17 (including vulnerable Jordanians as well as refugees)
  • Young women and men aged 18 – 35 (including vulnerable Jordanians as well as refugees)
  • Early married girls and young women
  • Girls and young women with disabilities
  • Girls going to schools and girls that have dropped out of the school for various reasons
  • GYW in universities

Objectives of the assignment:

This assignment seeks to talented Playwrights and theater directors to create and perform a 30-minute live performance inspired by the stories in our new comic book, “Behind the Scenes.”

The performance should shed light on the mental health challenges faced by girls and highlight the importance of addressing these issues. Three real stories from the comic book will be selected and adapted for the performance.

This project is part of our “She Leads” initiative and aims to raise awareness about girls’ mental health.

The specific objectives of the assignment:

  1. Create a high-quality, engaging live performance that accurately reflects the mental health challenges faced by girls in the comic book.
  2. Raise awareness among the target audience about the importance of girls’ mental health and the impact of these challenges on their lives.
  3. Promote the “Behind the Scenes” comic book and encourage its readership.
  4. Foster positive social change by inspiring viewers to act and support girls’ mental health initiatives.

Expected Deliverables

  1. Create a theatrical performance that reflects at least two real stories from the comic book “Behind the Scenes.”
  2. Stage two live performances in Amman.
  3. Collaborate with the She Leads team to mobilize to attend performances and reach a wider audience.
  4. Involve a group of young people in presenting the theatrical performance to amplify the message and engage the target audience

Duration and Timeline

The consultant is expected to sign a contract with Plan International Jordan and immediately begin creating the theatrical performance. Once completed, the performance must be submitted for review within 10 days. After approval, the consultant will have 10 days to rehearse before conducting two live performances: one in Amman and one in another governorate. Additionally, the consultant will be responsible for mobilizing attendance in the governorate within ten days. Under the supervision of the project managers the assignment should be 32 days delivering the following sub-assignments:

Conduct four meetings with the aim of managing and following up on the creative process 1 day (2 hours per meeting)

Consultant Required Skills and Experience:

  1. The ability to craft compelling narratives that resonate with the target audience.
  2. The ability to create relatable and well-developed characters.
  3. A strong understanding of mental health issues and the ability to incorporate these themes effectively into the performance.
  4. The ability to adapt real-life stories from the comic book into a theatrical format.
  5. The ability to bring the playwright’s vision to life through effective direction.
  6. The ability to mentor and guide actors in portraying their roles effectively.
  7. A strong understanding of stage design, lighting, sound, and other technical aspects of theater production.
  8. The ability to ensure that the performance runs smoothly and meets the project’s objectives.
  9. Understanding of the cultural context and sensitivities related to girls’ mental health in Jordan and Arab region.
  10. Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with a team of actors, production staff, and project stakeholders.
  11. The ability to meet deadlines and work efficiently within a specified timeframe.
  12. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey the message of the performance.
  13. Proven professional record in conducting similar assignments and achieving expected results.
  14. Over three years of professional experience

Evaluation criteria

Interested consultants should submit their CVs along with a technical and a financial proposal, as per the following criteria:

  1. Technical:
  2. Demonstration of the consultants’ understanding of the Objectives and deliverables. This will be included as an interpretation of the consultant’s understanding of the requirements of this assignment rather than a summary or re-statement of the Objectives and deliverables.
  3. Sample of other performances that the consultant conduct it shows his experience in designing similar theatrical performances
  4. Financial:
  5. An itemized and detailed budget, indicating the unit costs for consultancy fees. Please note that Plan International Jordan will provide all logistics. A point scoring out of 100 points shall be applied based on the following percentage for the two major components (technical and financial).

Evaluation of Financial Proposal

  1. Evaluation of financial Proposals shall be done only for those individuals/companies meeting the minimum score for a technical proposal.
  2. Thirty (30) points shall be the maximum total score given to the financial component (price).
  3. The applicant should provide a clear price breakdown.

Upon opening all the financial proposals, the maximum score is given to the lowest-priced proposal. All other price proposals from interested consultants shall be allocated scores in inverse proportion to the lowest price

Payment methods:

25% of the payment will be paid upon attending the first preparation meeting, 25% upon delivery of the final draft of the theatre performance, and 50% after conducting two performances one in Amman (launching the comic book event) and the second in the governorate.
