About the role

Our established Coastal team provides effective and efficient delivery of coastal engineering services for public and private sector clients including coastal modelling, coastal process assessments and coastal structure design within Australia and across APAC. We are currently looking for an experienced Principal Coastal Engineer to join our team based in our Melbourne office with flexible working arrangements available including WFH.

Day to day tasks would involve:

  • Managing key projects to ensure output is of a technically high standard

  • Leading coastal processes investigations (hydraulics, sediment transport and water quality)

  • Leading coastal infrastructure projects including feasibility studies, condition assessments, design of coastal structures and dredging studies

  • Leading coastal engineering proposals

  • Overseeing numerical modelling to simulate oceanographic and coastal processes to support investigations including port, maritime and coastal infrastructure

  • Providing specialist advice and technical leadership to team members and clients

  • Building strong relationships with clients

  • Working closely with other environmental, water and port related disciplines to deliver projects

  • Site visits as required for project delivery

To be successful for this role you’ll need:

  • Degree level qualifications in Engineering/Engineering (Coastal/Marine focus)

  • Demonstrated experience within the field of coastal/marine data collection, environmental assessment, coastal structure condition assessment, coastal processes investigations and coastal engineering design

  • Strong working knowledge of the various coastal and ocean modelling systems and their appropriate applications and strengths (such as Delft3D, Litpack, Mike, SWAN as well as relevant post processing skills using Matlab, Python or R)

  • Experience project managing coastal engineering projects, including multi-disciplinary teams

  • Demonstrated experience winning work and writing proposals

  • Experience designing coastal structures such as breakwaters and groynes

  • Field experience using ADCP’s and other met-ocean equipment

  • Strong analytical, reporting and communication skills

  • An ability to work independently and within a team environment.
