The University of Iowa’s Office of Strategic Communication (OSC) is seeking a Drupal Web Developer to join our cross-functional team of developers, designers, and web strategists for a term appointment of one year. In this role the selected candidate will help Iowa deliver on a strategy of building an accessible, on brand, and performant Drupal-based low-code/no-code website building platform for campus use.
This is the ideal opportunity for someone drawn to the mission of higher education, who values team building, and is excited by the opportunity to work with the entire stack from the front-end design system to the Acquia hosting infrastructure for 1000+ websites.
This role is part of a cross-functional Scrum team that also supports campus digital signage, a campus events system, a campus maps product, and other campus technologies that help Iowa solve for its most pressing business, communications, and recruitment needs.

Key Areas of Responsibility
Analysis/Design
- Consult with users to define functional/technical specifications for solution.
Implementation
- Utilize team tools and techniques for projects.
- Contribute to development efforts by writing, maintaining, reviewing, and evaluating code.
Support and Maintenance
- Review and analyze software defects. Troubleshoot/debug/identify malfunctioning systems. Implement software fixes. Debug software and deploy fixes as necessary.
- Provide support coverage for the team’s product portfolio.
Project Management
- Assist the Product Owner to provide oversight for projects.
Business Analysis
- Build and foster healthy relationships with teammates, colleagues, campus partners, and vendors.
- Provide leadership and mentoring in areas of expertise.
- Provide (and receive) feedback, coaching, and counseling to teammates.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3-6 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience developing websites and solutions.
- Experience with PHP development.
- Experience integrating with and exposing APIs.
- Experience using Git version control.
- Experience providing customer support and working with partners and stakeholders.
- A commitment to working as part of a team and building a healthy culture.
- Must provide a portfolio of web and development projects that speak to your skills, expertise, and contributions.
Desirable Qualifications
- Familiarity with American Disability Act (ADA), Section 508 compliance, and web accessibility standards including WCAG 2.x and WAI-ARIA.
- Experience developing web experiences that are WCAG 2.1 AA compliant.
- Experience developing with Drupal 8+.
- Experience with Command Line Interface (CLI) operations.
- Scrum Master or Scrum Developer certifications (CSM, A-CSM, PSM, CSD) or similar experiences successfully and sustainably delivering value using Agile principles and/or frameworks.
