The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to influence in this dynamic start-up environment and see their work make a real difference..So, here’s the scoop on the role…Our software development team are busy people! They’re also really sound. They work with our global client friends to bring PepTalk’s Team Experience programme to life through innovative tech solutions. You will join the team, leading a small group of talented developers on their PepTalk journey. As a scaling start-up, our offering is continuously evolving. Combine that with team experience and team morale being a relatively recent addition to construction tech, and you’ll understand why this role is no ordinary head of engineering position. You will work across the business on strategic projects to ensure all our clients achieve maximum value from PepTalk, while leading your team with a vision for agile development and a mindset for innovation to ensure we stay ahead of the curve..What does the role call for?This role calls for someone who is results and outcome oriented, with a demonstrated empathy and understanding of business goals and client needs. You have a genuine passion for making the work environment a better place. Your approach to relationship building inspires trust and confidence in your clients.You crave an opportunity to innovate, offer better ways of working and bring your knowledge, experience or enthusiasm to bear in the start-up environment. You will have an ability to prioritise workloads, manage schedules and collaborate with other teams (like our program, technology, customer success, and sales team). You’re comfortable presenting and advising at c-suite level. You make good decisions and exercise your judgement in situations that are not clear cut. Most of all, the idea of taking on a role you know you would excel at AND in a start-up environment, keeps you up at night (em, mostly with excitement, not fear!).Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Management:Lead, mentor, and manage a small team of software developers.Provide technical guidance and support to team members.Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment.Project Management:Plan, prioritize, and manage development tasks and projects to ensure timely delivery.Coordinate with other departments to align engineering efforts with business goals.Identify and mitigate project risks and issues.Technical Contributions:Actively participate in the software development lifecycle, including some occasional coding, code reviews, testing, and deployment.Contribute to the design and architecture of software solutions.Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure our solutions remain cutting-edge.Communication:Facilitate effective communication within the team and with other stakeholders.Present technical concepts and project updates to both technical and non-technical audiences.Process Improvement:Continuously improve development processes and practices.Implement and advocate for best practices in software development and team management.Qualifications and SkillsEducation: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.Experience:5+ years of experience in software development.2+ years of experience in a leadership or managerial role.Technical Skills:Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, C#, or similar.Strong understanding of software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum, etc.).Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.) and DevOps practices.Leadership Skills:Proven ability to lead and motivate a team.Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.Strong interpersonal and communication skills.Anything else …?I guess just to say ‘we are open’; open to whatever your background or status is.
