Rates: $100 – $140 per hour (inc. super)

The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations is seeking talented software engineers to join our innovation accelerator program. The innovation team focuses on adopting industry best practices and emerging technologies, adapting them to our operating environment and demonstrating business value. As we grow, we are looking to bring additional members into the team to help us formalise technical patterns, refine our process, develop rapid prototypes and support the industrialisation and broader adoption of new technologies and capabilities.

Our internal technology stack is based on .NET and Azure with many R&D tasks being undertaken in python. From a technical perspective, we’re looking for people who know how and when to move fast and break things and how to translate novel patterns, tools and capabilities into an enterprise environment in a reliable, scalable, and secure fashion.

We are looking for hands-on software engineers with experience in a variety of organisations and an appreciation for different approaches to problem solving and rapid validation of technical hypotheses. The ideal candidate is a team player who thrives on working with others, mentoring emerging talent, developing capability in the organisation and capturing learnings in documentation, new patterns, libraries, frameworks and new products.

Essential Criteria

  • Outline your knowledge and experience the following: – C# and .NET web applications and APIs – Python for AI/ML, prototypes and web frameworks – Azure, IaC, terraform – Establishing patterns to support enterprise capability Experience with analogous technologies is valued, explain to us how it relates.

  • Very briefly outline your experience in applied AI, innovation or start-up like environments. Personal projects, side-hustles or personal learning and exploration are also highly valued.

  • Describe a time that you have helped introduce or adapt a new technology or work practice into an organisation and how you solved the challenges that were encountered.

  • Tell us about your experience solving complex problems. In particular, how can problem solving be developed into a structured, reproducible, scalable and leveraged to achieve the greatest demonstrable benefit to an organisation.

  • Tell us about a professional contribution you have made to a product, service, team or organisation of which you are proud.

  • Outline your experience in Government or large enterprise service design and delivery.
